COMMENT REGARDING THE RATIFICATION OF THE SO-CALLED AGREEMENT ON THE TRANSFER OF BICHVINTA HOLIDAY HOUSE

The ratification of the so-called agreement by the so-called parliament of the Abkhazia occupation regime on the transfer of the Bichvinta holiday house to the Russian Federation represents another illegal act and the continuation of Russia's occupation policy with respect to the regions of Georgia, which grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.

The deputy minister congratulated the Maltese diplomat on his appointment and wished him success in his future activities. At the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of friendly and partner relations between Georgia and Malta, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international organizations. Teimuraz Janjalia congratulated the Ambassador on Malta's chairmanship in the OSCE in 2024 and expressed hope that the issue of Georgia will remain high on the agenda.

The sides emphasized the importance of the signing of the declaration on the establishment of a high-level dialogue by the foreign ministers of the two countries on 21 April 2023, and the importance of deepening cooperation in the format of the newly established dialogue. While speaking about EU integration, the Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted the significance of a political and practical support of the Republic of Malta. He noted that a bulk of 12 recommendations issued by the EU has been met and the process continues; several ones are pending and will be addressed in line with guidance of the EU. Irakli Garibashvili stated that Georgia deserves a status of the EU Candidate Country.

The Deputy Minister paid special attention to Georgia-EU and Georgia-NATO relations and the irreversibility of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process. Teimuraz Janjalia informed the audience about Georgia’s progress in this regard and the importance of granting Georgia the status of a candidate country.

Georgia was elected as a member of the Council of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for two years (from July 7, 2023 to June 30, 2025). The decision was made about Georgia during the 43rd FAO conference. The Conference was held in Rome on July 1-7, 2023.

Speaker Papuashvili overviewed the progress of Georgia at the EU integration path and expressed his sincere hopes for the support of Italy for granting the EU candidacy to Georgia.

During the meeting, the participants acknowledged that Georgia and Malta share a set of common European values. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine resulting from Russia's aggression and its unfavorable consequences.

To this end, the members of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee shared their experiences of Malta's accession to the European Union and expressed their readiness to provide Georgia with detailed information on the matter.
