THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL HAS ADOPTED A RESOLUTION ON THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES OF GEORGIA

On 11 October  2024, in Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on the occupied territories of Georgia titled "Cooperation with Georgia." The resolution was presented at the Council's session by Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lasha Darsalia.

On 13 September 2024, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Georgia and Malta took place in Valletta. The discussions were led by Deputy Minister Teimuraz Janjalia from the Georgian side and Permanent Secretary Christopher Cutajar  from the Maltese side.

2024 marks the 16th anniversary of Russia's full-scale military aggression against Georgia. After 16 years, the Russian Federation still continues occupation of Georgia's integral Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, in violation of the 12 August 2008 Ceasefire agreement brokered by the European Union and in blatant disregard of the fundamental principles and norms of international law. This is confirmed by numerous decisions of the International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights between 2021 and 2024.

On 15 May 2024, Ian Borg, the Acting Chairman of the OSCE and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and European Affairs of Malta, visited Georgia. During his visit, he held a meeting with Georgia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili. They discussed ongoing processes and challenges within the OSCE, with Georgia expressing readiness to contribute to addressing these challenges.

The ratification of the so-called agreement by the so-called parliament of the Abkhazia occupation regime on the transfer of the Bichvinta holiday house to the Russian Federation represents another illegal act and the continuation of Russia's occupation policy with respect to the regions of Georgia, which grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.

THE NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF MALTA TO GEORGIA HAS PRESENTED COPIES OF HIS CREDENTIALS TO THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA

The deputy minister congratulated the Maltese diplomat on his appointment and wished him success in his future activities. At the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of friendly and partner relations between Georgia and Malta, both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international organizations. Teimuraz Janjalia congratulated the Ambassador on Malta's chairmanship in the OSCE in 2024 and expressed hope that the issue of Georgia will remain high on the agenda.
